David McGoldrick has emerged as an injury concern for the Republic of Ireland's upcoming Euro 2020 qualifers after picking up a groin injury in training with Sheffield United.
McGoldrick was absent for Sheffield United’s 2-0 win over Everton and it was confirmed afterwards that he had suffered an injury while practicing shooting.
Manager Chris Wilder told BBC Sheffield@ "It’s bittersweet, isn’t it?"
"He [McGoldrick] is out there finishing, doing a little bit extra, which we asked all the players to do to raise their game and improve their skills. Then he tweaks his groin.
"He’s obviously going to be out for the midweek game [against Sunderland] and then we’ll see how he rocks up for the Liverpool game."
McGoldrick scored the vital goal for Ireland to get a point against Switzerland last time out at the Aviva Stadium. It was his first international goal.
Ireland face away matches in Georgia and versus the Swiss in three weeks, 12 and 15 October, and it remains to been in McGoldrick will recover in time.
