Drogheda United kept the title race alive on a tension-filled night in the First Division as Shelbourne saw the chance to wrap up the league slip away from their grasp.
Shels would have been crowned champions had they beaten Bray Wanderers at a boisterous Tolka Park and the Drogs slipped up at Athlone Town.
Tim Clancy's men held their nerve, a Chris Lyons' brace earning them a 2-0 win in the midlands. Shels meanwhile were held to a 0-0 draw by Bray, which means they are three points clear of Drogheda with two games to go.
The top two meet at United Park in a huge showdown in a fortnight - a win for the hosts would send them top on goal difference with a game to go, while a Shels success would give them the title.
Meanwhile third-placed Longford Town secured their place in the play-offs with a 2-0 win at Wexford FC, Dean Byrne and Aaron Dobbs getting the goals.
