Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp heaped praise on the all-female team of match officials - which included Wexford woman Michelle O'Neill - that oversaw Wednesday night's Super Cup in Istanbul.
Stephanie Frappart became the first woman to referee a major men's European game when she helmed the Reds' penalty shootout defeat of Chelsea.
She was ably assisted by lineswomen O'Neill and Manuela Nicolosi.
Although Klopp contested the decision to award Chelsea a penalty in extra-time after it appeared goalkeeper Adrian had made minimal contact with Tammy Abraham, that call was upheld by VAR, and the German was quick to hail the overall refereeing performance on a draining night in Turkey.
"I told the ref team after the game that if we'd played like they whistled, we would have won 6-0," he told Liverpool’s official website.
"That was my absolute opinion. They played a brilliant game. I told (Frappart) as well that I am not happy with the penalty decision because I'm still not sure that it was a penalty, but it’s not important anymore.
"They were really good. Whatever you could have thought before the game, there was pressure on them like hell with an historic moment.
"Staying by yourself, staying calm and do what you have to do, decide very important things in a very difficult and intense game, I couldn’t have more respect, to be honest. It was really a brilliant performance."
Although it was a landmark game for Frappart, Nicolosi and O'Neill it was not the biggest match they've been part of this summer - the trio were in charge of the Women's World Cup final between the USA and the Netherlands in France.
O'Neill referees in the FAI Continental Tyres Women's National League and is an assistant ref in the SSE Airtricity League.
