Arsenal have beaten the deadline to sign Chelsea defender David Luiz for a fee reportedly in the region of £7m.
The Brazilian instigated his move away from Stamford Bridge on Wednesday and the two clubs were able to agree a deal before the transfer window shut.
Luiz's switch across London is one of the shock moves of the summer window, but he made it clear he wanted to make it happen when he did not train with Frank Lampard's team on Wednesday.
The 32-year-old spent seven years across two spells with the Blues, winning six major trophies, but it is unlikely he will now be remembered fondly by the club's supporters given the manner of his exit and his destination.
He is reunited with Unai Emery, who was his manager at Paris St Germain.
Emery told the club's official website: "David has huge experience and I look forward to working with him again. He is a well-known player and adds to our defensive strength."
Luiz adds experience to the Gunners' back line following the sale of captain Laurent Koscielny, who also forced his way out of the club to join Bordeaux.
The Gunners also landed highly-rated full-back Kieran Tierney on a long-term deal from Celtic.
Everton managed to push through a deal for Arsenal winger Alex Iwobi after missing out on Crystal Palace's Wilfried Zaha.
The 23-year-old has signed, for a fee thought to be in the region of €38 million, agreeing a five-year contract at Goodison Park.
The deal was submitted before the 5pm deadline but did not get confirmed until four hours later.
The arrival of the Nigeria international, who played 149 times for the Gunners, completes a productive summer for the Toffees, who have spent big in a bid to crack the top six.
Iwobi follows goalkeeper Jonas Lossl, right-back Djibril Sidibe, midfielders Andre Gomes, Fabian Delph and Jean-Philippe Gbamin, and striker Moise Kean through the door.
Everton manager Marco Silva said on the club website: "Alex was one of our main targets for this window and I believe he is a fantastic signing for Everton. He is a direct and skilful winger and attacking midfielder who always works very hard for his team."
Romelu Lukaku has left Manchester United for Inter Milan in a reported €80 million move.
The Premier League club announced the Belgium striker's departure two years after signing from Everton for around €1.5 million more than today's fee.
The 26-year-old scored 42 goals in 96 games for United but had been linked with a move away for most of the summer and he did not feature in manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's pre-season plans.
The former Chelsea forward, who had also been linked with Juventus, has signed a five-year deal with the Serie A club.
Elsewhere, Andy Carroll completed an emotional move back to boyhood club Newcastle.
The 30-year-old, a free agent following his release by West Ham at the end of last season, scored 31 goals in 80 league appearances for the Magpies before joining Liverpool for €38 million in 2011.
Carroll's career has been hampered by injuries since leaving St James' Park and the Magpies were thought to have carefully examined his medical records before completing the one-year deal.

In other business on Tyneside, new boss Steve Bruce also signed Sweden full-back Emil Krafth from French side Amiens for a fee understood to be in the region of €5.4 million.
Tottenham were also doing business and a season-long loan deal for Real Betis midfielder Giovani Lo Celso was completed, while the highly-rated Ryan Sessegnon moved from Fulham on a six-year deal. Josh Onomah moved the other way.
Spurs had also been hoping to tie up a deal for Juventus' Paulo Dybala, but the situation regarding the forward proved more tricky owing to an issue with his naming rights.
Champions Manchester City signed former England goalkeeper Scott Carson, 33, on a year-long loan from Derby while Brighton secured the services of Huddersfield midfielder Aaron Mooy on a similar season-long deal, with Mooy also signing a new deal with his parent club.
Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater moved to Burnley on loan but Everton looked to have failed to sign Manchester United's Marcos Rojo.
Leicester have signed Belgium midfielder Dennis Praet on a five-year deal, who joins from Serie A club Sampdoria for an undisclosed fee thought to be around €19.5 million.
The 25-year-old joins from Serie A club Sampdoria and becomes Leicester's fourth summer signing following the arrivals of defender James Justin, forward Ayoze Perez and midfielder Youri Tielemans.
Irish moves included Scott Hogan, who has joined Stoke City on a season-long loan from Aston Villa, and James McCarthy swapping Everton for Crystal Palace.
