Cork City FC have completed the signing of Derry City forward Eoghan Stokes.

The Leesiders, who lost Graham Cummins to Shamrock Rovers at the end of June, were keen to beef up their attacking options.

Cork have also confirmed that Gary Boylan has left the club, after agreeing the mutual termination of his contract.

They are currently third from bottom, seven points clear of Finn Harps with two games in hand.

"It's something that has been going on since the [mid-season] break, so I'm delighted to have it sorted, " Stokes, 23, told the club website.

"It's a great set-up and I was very eager to join the club.

"I just want to come in, play as many games as I can and score a few goals. There are a lot of really good players here who have won leagues and cups. It hasn’t been a great season, but it has started to turn around and, hopefully, I can be part of helping that."

Cork held Shamrock Rovers to a 1-1 draw at Turner's Cross last Sunday and head coach John Cotter is hoping the former Bohs man's arrival can further boost morale in the camp.

"He gives us great options up front," he said.

"He can play in a number of positions and he was very eager to come here. We are delighted to have him and hope he will kick on now. Talks have been going on for a few weeks and he had the drive and the passion to come in and do well, so we hope he will give us an injection of quality now."
