PFAI Player Executive Ollie Cahill has said the body will hear Niall Quinn and Kieran Lucid lay out their visions for the future of the League of Ireland at a workshop this weekend.

Quinn's Football in Ireland Visionary Group want a total overhaul of the game in this country, stating their intention to see a fully professional League of Ireland by 2026 and a 7.5% year-on-year increase in participation among the aims.

The group made their submission to the Governance Reform Group of the FAI at the end of May, calling for a UEFA-style governance structure for the association and the harnessing of new commercial revenue streams to create a sustainable Irish football industry, with greater support from government, the education sphere and regional bodies.

Meanwhile Lucid envisions an all-island league, merging the League of Ireland and the Irish League, which he believes could be operational by May 2021.

Cahill, speaking on the RTÉ Soccer podcast, said the PFAI are ready to hear out both proposals.

"We've just got to get into the nitty gritty of it and see," he said.

"There's a work shop coming up at the weekend where there's going to be talks from Niall Quinn on his proposal and Kieran Lucid on the All-Ireland league proposal.

"I suppose the big thing is if, financially, it's worthwhile. If the clubs think there's a big financial carrot dangling there for them that could turn their heads alright.

"From our point of view we'll just see where the players fit into that. Are we going to be the representative body for them if there's an All-Ireland league?

"There's lots of stuff for us to figure out on that end. It's definitely interesting times ahead and we'll see how it all pans out.

"Over the next couple of weeks, after this work shop at the weekend and more meat is put on the bones we can make an informed decision then."
