Wes Hoolahan looks set to join Cambridge United on a trial period, according to reports in the English media.

The former Republic of Ireland midfielder previously worked with U's manager Colin Calderwood and has been without a club since leaving West Brom at the end of the season.

The 37-year-old made ten appearances for the Baggies last season, and now looks set to play his football in League Two for the upcoming campaign.

The Abbey Stadium side finished 21st in the division last season.

Hoolahan has played over 400 games in England and Scotland since leaving Shelbourne in 2005, and made 43 appearances for Ireland.
