Former Republic of Ireland international Darren O'Dea ended his playing career with a red card for Dundee in their 3-2 defeat at home to St Mirren.

O'Dea had long signaled that he would be retiring at the end of the current campaign but would have hoped for a better send-off in his final game.

The much traveled footballer saw red in the 20th minute when his last-ditch lunge on Brad Lyons, after he lost possession outside his own penalty area, was deemed a sending-off offence.

Despite the ignominious farewell, O'Dea received a standing ovation from the home supporters, whose side were winning 1-0 at the time.

Dundee was the last stop on a long career for O'Dea, in which he played for Celtic, Reading, Ipswich, Leeds, Toronto FC, Metalurh Donetsk, Blackpool and Mumbai City.
