John Cotter has been confirmed as interim Cork City manager, while Alan Bennett and Colin Healy are to join the management team with immediate effect.

Without a win in eight Premier Division games and just three points above the relegation zone, City parted ways with Caulfield after five years at the helm and said an interim manager would be appointed while the process for successor begins.

Cotter joined the club’s coaching staff in 2014 and had been Caulfield’s assistant manager. The former Cork City player is a UEFA A Licence holder and currently on the Pro Licence course.

"I’m delighted and honoured to take up this new interim role," he said.

"I’m looking forward to getting the head down now and trying to get the club back up the table as quickly as possible. We have an excellent team of backroom staff that can achieve that."

Cotter will be in the dugout for Friday’s night’s SSE Airtricity League clash with Bohemians at Dalymount Park.

Club captain Bennett will take up the role of interim assistant manager, while Healy is promoted from his Head of Academy role.

"It has been an honour to play for and captain this club, and I am now looking forward to working with John and the rest of the backroom staff over the coming days and weeks," the former Republic of Ireland international said.

"Our focus now is on preparing the team for tomorrow’s game at Dalymount Park and trying to put together a run of results that will help propel the team back up the table."
