Shelbourne midfielder Alex Kavanagh has been named the Só Hotels Women’s National League Player of the Month for March.

Kavanagh is the first player to pick up the award for the 2019 season, with games in the league kicking off on 9 March.

The Finglas-native said the award was a great reward for working her way into the Shels first team this season.

"It means a lot to me, even more so because last season I didn’t play as much as I wanted to, so in pre-season I had to work a lot harder to get into the team."

And Kavanagh has been prolific in front of goal this season and credits this with helping her pick up the award.

She said: "A big part of it [winning the award], I think, is the goals, but I don’t think I would have been able to score the goals without the girls.

"I have been working hard, because of last season, as I said, but I’ve also been working on scoring goals."
