Former Republic of Ireland international Steven Reid has returned to West Brom to assist caretaker head coach Jimmy Shan for the remainder of the season.

The 38-year-old spent four years at The Hawthorns as a player, from 2010 to 2014, and has since had coaching roles at Reading and Crystal Palace - working with former Albion chiefs Steve Clarke and Roy Hodgson respectively.

He left Palace in August last year for personal reasons but has since coached at AFC Wimbledon too.

First-team coach Shan took over in a temporary capacity following the sacking for Darren Moore last month.

"He’s got some fantastic coaching experience with some high calibre managers and recent experience of going to the play-offs with Reading," Shan said of Reid, who made 88 appearances in four years with the Baggies.

"I saw him coaching when he was still here as a player. He coached the under-18s, who I was in charge of, while he was doing his badges.

"He’s an outstanding individual with great integrity and just what we need for the challenge ahead."
