Brandon Kavanagh has become the third Shamrock Rovers player to be called up for international duty this week after Stephen Kenny drafted him into his Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad.

Norwich City midfielder Simon Power has been ruled out with a calf problem, meaning Kavanagh joins clubmate Trevor Clarke in the squad for Sunday's European Championship qualifier against Luxembourg at Tallaght Stadium (5pm).

Jack Byrne will be in Gibraltar with Mick McCarthy's seniors but the Hoops' Airtricity League Premier Division clash at Finn Harps will go ahead on Friday night as scheduled.

Power is on loan at Dutch outfit Dordrecht. He penned a new two-year deal with the Canaries in January before heading to the Netherlands to get first-team minutes under his belt. A scan showed up a tear in his calf, opening the door for 18-year-old Kavanagh to try and catch new boss Kenny's eye.

Troy Parrott, Michael Obafemi and Aaron Connolly are also on the injured for the former Dundalk manager's first game in charge.
