James McClean is taking a legal case against UUP councillor Chris McGimpsey in relation to alleged comments made on a BBC Radio Ulster show.
The case is to be heard at Belfast High Court on Wednesday, 13 March, according to a statement from the Republic of Ireland and Stoke player's solicitor John Finucane.
In a statement Finucane alleges that Belfast Councillor McGimpsey made "a false and highly defamatory statement" regarding McClean on the Nolan Show on 7 November 2018.
"We are disappointed that, to date, no apology has been forthcoming from Mr McGimpsey, and ultimately Mr McClean has had to seek the recourse of the Courts in order to protect and vindicate his reputation."
