Two weeks out from the start of the Euro 2020 qualifiers and Mick McCarthy was in relaxed mood as he appeared on The Late Late Show.

And while he didn't mention the phrase 'Put 'Em Under Pressure' that his predecessor Jack Charlton used to define his approach to managing the Republic of Ireland, McCarthy is also keen for his side to impose themselves on the opposition no matter who they are.

"We'll be properly prepared in that it's up to us to take the game to the opposition," he told Ryan Tubridy.

"The team that I played in were up and at the opposition and teams did not like playing against us. I have got to try and get the team back to doing that.

"Whatever happens when the opposition come off the pitch, it will be case of them saying 'we didn't enjoy that'".

The Irish boss was also keen to talk up his players in the aftermath of Thursday's press conference where he named his initial 38-man squad.

"I think we've got some good players," he added.

"I did the press conference yesterday and I'm asked 'have we got any goalscorers'? Did they want me to start bemoaning the fact that we don't have any goalscorers.

"I went through the players that have been scoring - Callum O'Dowda, James McClean, David McGoldrick and James Collins.

"Lets talk the players up and let's try and get the best out of them."
