Republic of Ireland defender Enda Stevens has agreed a new deal that will keep him at promotion-chasing Sheffield United for another three years.

The former Shamrock Rovers man has played a big part in what's been a fine campaign for the Blades. They are currently second in the Championship, two points off leaders Norwich and on track to earn at least a play-off spot.

Stevens made his full Ireland debut last June in the friendly defeat of the USA. He started the Nations League stalemate against Denmark in Aarhus - Martin O'Neill's last in charge - and has repaid the faith Sheffield United showed in him when they brought the the Dubliner to Bramall Lane from Portsmouth nearly two years ago.

Stevens and skipper Billy Sharp both extended their contracts today.

"Both new contracts are fully deserved, they have been outstanding in their respective areas of the pitch," manager Chris Wilder told the club website.

"Enda has been outstanding since he came in. The way he plays the game, he has been a very important part of our progress in the last 18 months. I’ve always been a big fan of his.

"He has taken to Championship football really well and kicked on, which has resulted in him getting in the Republic of Ireland national squad.

"They are both here for the long-term, they are good players and hopefully they will keep moving forward with us."
