UL 1-2 UCC (After extra-time)

University College Cork are the 2019 Rustlers Collingwood Cup champions after a late comeback saw them defeat the University of Limerick 2-1 after extra-time in Markets Field.

Player of the Tournament Robert Slevin headed home the winning goal in the second minute of extra-time to dash the hopes of a Limerick side who were minutes away from lifting their first ever Collingwood in their home county.

In an opportunity-packed first period, UL took the lead when a long throw-in fell to Alan Murphy and he drilled the ball into the bottom corner of the net.

Chances were at a premium in the second half and it looked like there was no way back for the Cork side until Patrick Crowley’s 86th-minute cross was flicked in at the near post by the on-rushing Simon Falvey to force extra-time .

UCC took little time to put themselves in the lead upon the resumption when Slevin met Garan Manley’s corner and the ball flew into the corner.

UL tried to rally but the toll of three days of games began to show in the final few moments and UCC went on to lift their 14th Cup.
