The Republic of Ireland's Euro 2020 qualifier against Gibraltar will take place at the tiny Victoria Stadium on 23 March, with travelling fans set to make up nearly a third of the capacity.

The FAI had urged Irish fans to hold off on making plans for the away clash last week as UEFA had still not made a decision on where the game would be played.

The Gibraltar FA have always been keen to hold it at the 2,300-capacity Victoria Stadium but were locked in discussions with the European governing body over the suitability of the venue.

The alternative was the 30,000-capacity Estadio Algarve in Portugal. Ireland played Gibraltar there during qualification for Euro 2016.

That would have made a huge difference to fans in terms ticket availability but it's off the table; Mick McCarthy's men will open their Group D campaign in Gibraltar.

The FAI have secured 800 tickets for the game but it's likely a lot more will travel.

The tickets will be allocated under a new structure, with 65% will going to independent supporters who are members of Republic of Ireland Soccer Supporters Clubs and Fans’ Direct, 20% being distributed to supporters from affiliated football leagues and 2,000 clubs, and the remaining 15% to supporters travelling with the FAI’s official travel partner, Abbey Travel.
