Republic of Ireland midfielder Callum O'Dowda has committed his immediate future to Bristol City by extending his deal that will keep him at Ashton Gate until the summer of 2020.

There had been speculation that Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds were looking to swoop for the 23-year-old's services, but O'Dowda has extended his contract with the Robins, as have Bailey Wright and Matty Taylor.

"To have three important players extend their stays here is brilliant news for the club," boss Lee Johnson told the club website.

"They are quality players and fantastic individuals who bring a lot to the pitch and dressing room. I’m looking forward to what the rest of the campaign brings and I know Bailey, Callum and Matty will play a big part in that."

Bristol City are seventh in the Championship, just two points outside the play-off spots.

O'Dowda has scored twice in his made 24 appearances to date this season. Having left Oxford United in the summer of 2016, he's continued to progress at a steady rate, establishing himself in Martin O'Neill's Ireland squad and adapting to life in the higher division.

O'Neill - a vocal admirer of O'Dowda's - officially took the reins at Nottingham Forest today, who lie two points and two places behind Bristol City in the table.
