Former Manchester United and England striker Andy Cole has joined the coaching staff at Macclesfield, the League Two club have announced.

Cole has joined former team-mate Sol Campbell's staff on a part-time basis.

The 47-year-old enjoyed an impressive 19-year playing career, winning five Premier League titles and the Champions League during a six-year spell at Old Trafford.

He is the third highest goalscorer in Premier League history with 187 goals.

Cole, who won 15 England caps, was a team-mate of Campbell's at Portsmouth in the 2006-07 season.

He'll now link up with ex-Republic of Ireland international Mark Kennedy, who was appointed first-team coach at the Silkmen before Christmas. The 42-year-old Dubliner had previous roles at Manchester City’s academy and Ipswich Town.

Former England defender Campbell took over as Macclesfield manager in November and has helped lift the team off the foot of the table. They lie 23rd in the standings, three points from safety, ahead of Saturday's match at home to Oldham.
