Graeme Souness says it was inevitable that Manchester United would part ways with Jose Mourinho.
This morning the club announced that it had parted ways with their Portuguese manager, two days after United's 3-1 Premier League defeat at Liverpool, which left them 19 points behind the table-topping Reds in sixth place, and 11 points off the top four.
Speaking on Sky Sports, former Liverpool and Newcastle United manager Souness says there was simply no way out for Mourinho.
"I think he would have known this was coming. I’m not surprised."
"I don’t think so," he responded when asked if Mourinho could have any complaints about the decision.
"With the money he has spent and how the players are playing at this present moment in time…I said on Sunday, I couldn’t see any light at the end of the tunnel for them.
"I was at Bournemouth two weeks ago. I’m a season ticket holder there. My season ticket is 10 rows behind the dugout and I saw a man who didn’t want to be there."
Mourinho took charge at United, succeeding Louis van Gaal, in the summer of 2016 and they won the Europa League and League Cup in their first season under the Portuguese.
The Red Devils then finished second in the Premier League last term, before making a troubled start to this season, winning only seven of 17 league games and being knocked out of the League Cup at home by Championship club Derby.
