Shane Duffy has apologised for getting sent off in Brighton’s win over Crystal Palace.
The Seagulls led 1-0 thanks to a Glenn Murray goal when the Ireland central defender had an altercation with Patrick van Aanholt.
The Derry man pushed his head into the Palace player and referee Kevin Friend had no option but to brandish a red card.
Duffy wrote on Twitter: "Can only apologise to everyone tonight for letting use [sic] down. I’m disappointed in myself for even getting myself into the situation."
Despite playing for more than an hour with 10 men, Chris Hughton’s side managed a 3-1 victory and sit tenth in the Premier League table.
Hughton, a former Republic of Ireland defender, said: "Shane will have to learn from this.
"He's an experienced player who should know better, but he will learn from it.
"We’re going to lose him for three games. There’s no hiding place these days. It will be shown time and time again."
The 26-year-old, who has 25 Ireland caps, will miss games against Burnley, Chelsea and Bournemouth.
Can only apologise to everyone tonight for letting use down. Grateful for the team we have here for a huge win tonight the boys were unbelievable! I’m disappointed in myself for even getting myself into the situation. What a win !! 🔵⚪️ @OfficialBHAFC
