Whole new ball game: Robbie Keane's storied career has come to an end

As Ireland's record goalscorer finally hangs up his boots after 22 years as a professional footballer, we take a look at a storied career that took him from the English Midlands, to Italy, Los Angeles and Kolkata.

July 1996

Signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers four days before his 16th birthday, scoring twice on his debut against Norwich on 9 August 1997.

July 1998

July 2000

After a successful stint with Coventry, Keane gives the first indications of his wanderlust by signing for Inter in a deal worth £13m. Unfortunately he made only 14 appearances for the Italian giants as he fell out of favour after the sacking of Marcello Lippi.

Now at Leeds, Robbie Keane scored three goals in four World Cup matches in Japan in 2002, including a memorable late equaliser against Germany. Meanwhile, back in Tallaght, his family watched their son's exploits from the very edge of their seats.
