RTÉ Soccer analyst Alan Cawley believes managing the Republic of Ireland is a realistic target for Stephen Kenny after adding another honour with Dundalk yesterday at the Aviva Stadium.
Dundalk completed their second league and FAI Cup double with a 2-1 victory over Cork City.
Cawley said: "At this stage, the success he has had of four league titles in five years and two doubles is phenomenal. It’s down to the brilliance of the man.
"I know he is very ambitious and wants to strive for more and more. I think the Irish job is certainly in his mind at some stage.
"If it was to pop up in the next year and a half, or whenever, I definitely think he is in the reckoning."
Martin O'Neill will tomorrow name his provisional squad for the international friendly against Northern Ireland on 15 November at Aviva Stadium and the final Nations League against Denmark four days later in Aarhus.
The former league winner Cawley expects Patrick Hoban to join Michael Duffy in being in contention for the squad.
"There are two or three definitely in the reckoning. They should be after the seasons they have had.
"Obviously Patrick Hoban has 29 goals, that is remarkable, and it’s not just his goals but his all-round game with his hold-up play. Michael Duffy has been electric.
"I think he has 23 assists with 13 goals. I know there is an issue with paperwork being finalised and the changeover from Northern Ireland.
"If it has been finalised then those two are very much in the reckoning."
