Derry City have announced they have parted company with manager Kenny Shiels.

Shiels was very successful at Derry for his first two seasons at the club, leading them back into Europe.

But results have deteriorated this season and such was their collapse, they finished third bottom of the Premier Division, conceding 70 goals.

The Candystripes won the League Cup in September but defeat to Bray Wanderers and St Patrick's Athletic, along with rumours of disharmony in the dressing-room, have seen his spell at the Brandywell come to an end.

A Derry statement read: "We acknowledge Kenny’s contribution to the football club over the past three seasons, one of which was particularly difficult.

"We wish Kenny the best for the future.

"The club will make no further comment on the issue."
