Dundalk manager Stephen Kenny is confident Patrick Hoban will overcome an ankle injury to feature in the FAI Cup final after picking up the knock last night.

Hoban’s participation is in doubt after the 1-1 draw with Bohemians at Dalymount Park where he left the stadium on crutches.

The league's top scorer will have a scan today to see if he can feature.

Kenny said: "We'll have to see. Patrick has never played in the Aviva Stadium. He is a very determined guy so I imagine he'll be fine."

One positive for Dundalk was the return of talisman Stephen O’Donnell from a leg break suffered in the middle of the season.

The midfielder started for the visitors last night after five months out.

He could now feature on Sunday week against Cork City as Dundalk chase a double against the Rebels.

Kenny said: "It was a horrific break and may felt it was career-threatening. He showed great determination to get back and credit to him. It was a surprise start tonight. It is great for him.

"It has been an amazing season really. We couldn’t have predicted it in mid-season when it was such a tight affair between three clubs.

"To win it and be 12 clear going into tonight, we thought mid-season that this game would be one we need a result in to win the league. To win it a few weeks ago, we couldn't have predicted. It's a great effort by the players to get the record points and goals.

"We have great respect for Cork as a team. We have to earn everything in the Aviva. I do feel we have been playing very well of late and we can take great confidence going into the final.

"The players are looking forward to it. It's great for a provincial town like Dundalk to have the big event."
