Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is believed to have donated €5,000 to a fundraiser in aid of Sean Cox, the Meath man who was assaulted before the club's Champions League semi-final with Roma in April.
Cox was attacked outside Anfield and sustained severe head injuries, for which he is now receiving treatment at the National Rehabilitation Hospital in Dun Laoghaire.
Roma fan Filippo Lombardi was jailed for three years on a charge of violent disorder in relation to the incident but was found not guilty of causing grievous bodily harm in a trial that ended last week.
Today's donation was made using the German's name to a GoFundMe ‘Support Sean Cox’ page, which has so far raised €56,625 of a €2m target towards the Irishman's long-term care.
Liverpool fan group the Spirit of Shankly will also hold a bucket collection before the club's home game against Cardiff on Sunday.
Sean's wife Martina will be a guest on tonight's Late Late Show on RTÉ One.
