Cork City's sparkling 16-year-old talent Eabha O'Mahony has scooped the Continental Tyres Women's National League Player of the Month as her star continues to soar.

O'Mahony has enjoyed a hugely impressive breakthrough season following her move to Cork from Lakewood Athletic and wins the award for August.

The defender was called up to the senior squad for the two friendlies against Portugal last January and is a regular at Colin Bell's home-based training sessions.

She'll travel to Serbia with the Under-17s later this month as they face the host nation, Albania and Wales in their UEFA European Championships Qualifying Round.

"I'm delighted to win the award," said O'Mahony.

"I've really enjoyed the season so far, stepping up to senior level and I really hope to keep progressing towards the end of the season.

"I want to thank all of my team-mates who've helped me in my first season. All of the senior players have been great with me as well and I'm really happy playing at the club.

"Most of all, I want to thank my parents for giving me a lift to training all of the time!"
