Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is grateful for the belief shown in by manager Jurgen Klopp and promised to work on his finishing to contribute even more at Anfield.

Sturridge’s time looked up at the Reds as he was sent on loan to West Bromwich Albion for an unsuccessful spell, but after a promising pre-season, he has kept his place in the squad.

The English striker rewarded for his hard working in training with a first start of the season against PSG, and he repaid that trust with the opening goal of the 3-2 win.

Speaking after the game, Sturridge told RTÉ Sport: "It was a brilliant game, from start to finish. I thought we defended well. We gave it our everything and I think we got the result we deserved in the end.

"It felt great. It has been a while since I have started in a competitive game for Liverpool so it was great to give my input and help the team get the result

"He [Klopp] has belief in me and I'm grateful for that. I have worked my socks off since I came back to the club in pre-season and I'm grateful to God that this moment has happened.

"For me it is just about taking every game as it comes and not put too much pressure on myself. If I'm not playing I'll come off the bench and give my all. If I am, I'll give my all as well. If I'm called upon I'll give my best for the club, just like everyone else will."

Sturridge was clinical in heading past Alphonse Areola in front of the Kop, but did spurn a couple of chances in the second period.

With Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold delivering balls into the area, Sturridge is keen to make sure he takes advantage even more next time around.

"Those crosses, I don't think there has necessarily been a lot of those crosses in the past, so to have those two whipping those balls in and me trying to attack them, I think I'm going to have to work on my heading in training to make sure I don't miss any because I'm hard on myself when I do. I pride myself on taking the chances.

"It'll be great to contribute. It's a big moment for the team today. There is a long way to go in the group."
