DARREN RANDOLPH 7
Didn't have much to do but that was more down to some poor Polish finishing than stout Irish defending in the first half in particular. No chance for their goal. Overall, another steady Eddie showing by the ever reliable Middlesbrough stopper.
KEVIN LONG 7
Gobbled up every cross tossed his way and was part of a central defensive three that looked reasonably comfortable for most of the second half. Looked less at ease when Poland made changes and the clever Mateusz Klich started moving between the lines.
JOHN EGAN 7
Attacks everything, brave as a lion but guilty of lapses in concentration. Switched off for their equaliser.
RICHARD KEOGH 7
Went all-out to head a long throw in the first half that he missed completely, clattering into his two defensive partners instead, but he's a good organiser and kept them very well marshalled after the break. Made one brilliant clearance header with ten minutes to go despite being the wrong side of his man.
CYRUS CHRISTIE 7
Had one great run in the second half when he skated into the box before his strike was blocked by a sliding Pole. That run led to the goal, however, didn't get forward enough to stake a claim for a permanent role in the side.
ENDA STEVENS 7
Was under-used by Ireland in his left wing-back role but never looked flustered and was neat and tidy in possession.
SHAUN WILLIAMS 8
Got on loads of ball in the first half and never stopped looking for possession from his defenders in that holding midfield role. Passing tended to go sideways or backwards a lot but the movement ahead of him was pretty static. Faded a bit in the second half.
CALLUM O'DOWDA 9
Composed, confident and - ultimately - potent. It was his lovely cross onto Aiden O'Brien's head that cracked the hosts open but O'Dowda was ambitious and technically impressive all night. The most eye-catching player on the pitch.
JEFF HENDRICK 6
A subdued showing from the Burnley man - one of only three Premier League players who started for Ireland. The least impressive in a trio of himself. O'Dowda and Shaun Williams.
CALLUM ROBINSON 6
He was game and worked hard but showed a lack of quality in a few promising positions, with play breaking down between himself and the deeper-lying O'Brien too often. Plenty to learn at this level but won't be found wanting when it comes to hard work.
AIDEN O'BRIEN 7
His first goal for Ireland in his first start - this game will live long in the memory of the Millwall man if not many others. Finished off O'Dowda's cross well and was busy in behind Robinson; just needs to work on his decision making under pressure.
SUBS
Matt Doherty 6 (for Christie 54) - Never really got forward with the home team exerting more pressure as the half wore on. Solid defensively.
David Meyler 5 (for Hendrick 54) - Struggled to get on the ball and found himself mostly chasing white shirts. A little slack in possession.
Graham Burke 6 (for Robinson 64) - Another one who entered the fray as the tide was turning in Poland's favour. Worked hard but was starved of the ball in areas he can do damage.
Hourihane on for Williams (72) - Chased and harried but couldn't stamp his authority as control of the midfield slipped away from the Irish.
Daryl Horgan on O'Brien (80) - A tough cameo for the Hibs man who found himself facing his own goal for most of the ten minutes he was on the pitch.
Alan Judge (for O'Dowda 89) - Not on long enough to rate.
