Dundalk manager Stephen Kenny was 'delighted' with his side's 2-0 victory over Sligo Rovers at the Showgrounds last night, a result which saw them move clear at the top of the SSE Airtricity Premier Division.

The Lilywhites are facing into one the busiest periods of the season with the club chasing honours on two fronts.

Kenny’s side are in the midst of a two week spell in which they play five games that will go a long way to deciding their season.

The victory over Sligo saw them consolidate top spot in the league as they moved three points clear of their rivals with a game in hand.

Up next it’s a clash with Finn Harps in the FAI Cup and while Kenny admits that it’s an intense period for his team, he’s relishing the games.

Speaking to RTÉ Sport, he said: "Bray on Friday, Sligo today, Finn Harps on Friday, then we have Shamrock Rovers on Tuesday and Limerick on Friday.

"Five in 14 [days], three trips away. It’s a busy period for us so we have to get ready for the Cup on Friday and make that we are professional and come through the round against Finn Harps. It will be a tough game.

"Shamrock Rovers on Tuesday in Oriel Park and we head down to Limerick on Friday, so it’s a little busy period so hopefully we can come through it with good results."

Kenny hailed the way his side went against overcoming a stubborn Sligo side, who themselves were on a high after taking a huge step to ensuring their top flight survival with a win over Limerick on Friday.

"Yeah we’re delighted really to get the victory," the Dundalk boss said. "Sligo had a great win in Limerick and they almost cemented their Premier Division status and were determined to try and beat us tonight and you could sense that.

"They made it very difficult, it was a real battle and I think it was important to come out in the manner that we did.

"I can’t complement the players highly enough."
