Wexford Youths were unable to recover from a disastrous opening 20 mintues and slumped to a 3-0 defeat to Icelandic side Thor in the Womens' Champions League tie Belfast's Seaview on Friday night.

The defeat ends Youths' already slim chances of reaching the knockout phase, with the Wexford side having previously suffered a 4-1 reversal against Ajax in the same venue on Tuesday night.

They now play their final group game against Northern Irish champions Linfield on Monday afternoon.

Thor had two goals inside the 10 minutes with captain Sandra Jessen nudging them in front before Hulda Björg Hannesdóttir headed home a corner to double their lead four minutes later.

It would get worse for the 2016 WNL champions Hulda Oak Jonsdottir turned Mayer's cross past Lenehan on 19 minutes.

Youths rallied after that and staunched the flow of attacks, carving open some chances themselves.

Rianna Jarrett, who scored the opener against Ajax on Tuesday, was scuppered when going through one-on-one on the half-hour mark.

Youths worked hard in the second half but were foiled time and again by Thor's Canadian stopper Stephanie Bukovec, with Emma Hansberry and Jarrett, again, forcing saves from the keeper.

Ajax and Thor now face off in a battle for the group's top spot, while Wexford Youths meet Linfield, who suffered 2-0 defeats in their two games, in a scrap to see avoid's bottom spot.
