Perth has been Stephen Kenny’s right-hand man at Oriel Park since 2013, but left his day job as a courier last month at the age of 40 to assume the position in a full-time capacity.

Speaking on the Soccer Republic Extra podcast, the Dublin native explained his thought process.

"It was a massive decision. This country is not the most secure for full-time professionals and when you have a family and young kids it is something you need to consider carefully," he said.

"I was never going to be a full-time footballer, I wasn’t good enough. It’s something new for me. Heading into my 40s to go full-time in football is a big decision, but it feels right.

"Sometimes you have to pick your passion over your pension. Whether it is three years or 10 years [contract], I said I would make this decision.

"Touch wood it will be a positive experience."

"It feels like I have been working with him for 20 years at this stage. We are like a married couple"

Perth has been involved during some of the most successful days in the club’s history and his role in that period of domestic and European success has been rewarded with a three-year contract.

Having worked with Kenny at Longford Town and as a match analyst for him at Derry City, it continues the pair’s long-standing working relationship.

"It feels like I have been working with him for 20 years at this stage. We are like a married couple."
