Graham Burke is eyeing a role just off the striker at Preston North End

Graham Burke says he is hoping to get the chance to showcase his talent at Preston North End in his favourite position: just off the striker.

The Republic of Ireland international linked up last week for his first day of pre-season training with his new club, though fitness will not be an issue for the 24-year-old coming midway through an Airtricity League season where he plundered 13 goals.

Burke is the latest Irish player to move to Deepdale and is hoping he can have the same impact as Seanie Maguire had last season.

The former Cork City striker notched nine league goals in 17 Championship appearances and is a source of inspiration to the new arrival.

"Sean Maguire has shown what can be done when moving here, it’s brilliant that he scored goals last season," he told the Lancashire Post.

"He had the injury but scored goals either side of it."

"I can play other positions but it’s that No. 10 role I have done well in"

Burke is hopeful that if played in his favourite position, he can prove every bit as effective as his fellow Irishman.

He said: "The role that I feel most comfortable in is the one I played at Shamrock Rovers, playing off the front man. I can play other positions but it’s that No.10 role I have done well in.

"The gaffer has just told me to work hard, do my best and everything will go from there."
