Wales captain Ashley Williams has revealed that he suffered a 'punctured lung' during his country's goalless draw with Mexico on Tuesday, which subsequently collapsed.
The Everton central defender is also nursing "multiple breaks" to two ribs following the collision with Javier Hernandez which forced him off after only 17 minutes.
Williams announced the news on his Facebook page on Saturday night along with a series of pictures from his hospital bed in Los Angeles as he revealed the full extent of the injury.
The full statement reads:
"Crazy couple weeks.. great to be back in a FA Wales shirt & with the lads, however after coming off after 20 mins with multiple breaks on two ribs, I went hospital & found out I had punctured my left lung which led to it collapsing.
"I would like to say a huge thank you to all the staff at Ronald Reagan UCLA hospital in Beverley Hills for looking after me and making sure surgery went as comfortable as possible. Look forward to flying home & resting up now before the new season!"
