Graham Burke said he was proud to be able to say he'd made a senior cap for the Republic of Ireland after coming on as a second half substitute in Monday night's Paris friendly.
Burke becomes the first League of Ireland player to make a senior international cap since Joe Gamble played against Ecuador in a friendly in the Giants Stadium in May 2007.
And he becomes the first Shamrock Rovers player to turn out for the Ireland side since Pat Byrne in 1986.
The 24 yer old Dubliner, who was previously at Aston Villa and Notts County, has lit up the League of Ireland season, hitting 10 goals so far and sitting second in the goal-scoring charts.
"It's a brilliant feeling," he told RTÉ Sport afterwards. "I'm over the moon and I can't really put it into words right now. But it's a dream come true. I'm proud to say I made a senior cap for the Republic of Ireland
"At 55 minutes, I was told to warm up and then you get the call from the sideline to say you're coming on and the heart start beating a bit faster. But to go on the pitch was brilliant.
"For everyone playing in the League of Ireland, you can see that if you're playing well you can go and achieve a senior cap. It just goes to show you can go out and do it."
