Eamon Dunphy has delivered a savage critique of Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius, describing the German as an "airhead" who falls well below the standard required for the top level.

Karius endured a horrendous night in Kyiv as his two blunders gifted Real Madrid the Champions League final.

The 24-year-old was utterly distraught at the final whistle, apologising to the players and the fans, while admitting: "I lost my team the game."

Dunphy has no sympathy for the stopper however.

"He should never have bought," he told RTÉ 2fm Game On.

"He's never looked like a Premier League goalkeeper. He doesn't have the presence for one thing. He's never looked the part. I've no sympathy for him or Klopp. Klopp bought him.

"He's not error prone, he's a poor goalkeeper. If you look at the goals in Rome for example (in the semi-final second leg), the one he pushed out to Dzeko. He should have tipped it around the posts for a corner.

"He doesn't concentrate. He's unprofessional. He's an airhead. He shouldn't be playing professional football.

"Nobody will win the Champions League with this guy in goal and with Lovren playing centre-half."
