Neymar has handed Brazil a fitness boost ahead of the World Cup by returning to training with Paris St Germain, however France have suffered a blow with the news that Marseille attacker Dmitri Payet will not go to Russia.

Neymar, who has not played since suffering a fractured metatarsal in February, returned to "partial team training" at the Parc des Princes on Thursday, the Ligue 1 champions said in a statement.

The club confirmed Neymar would not play in PSG's final game of the season against Caen on Saturday.
He will travel to Brazil on Thursday night to continue his recovery as planned ahead of the World Cup.

Brazil face Croatia in a friendly at Anfield on June 3 and take on Austria a week later before they kick off their World Cup campaign against Switzerland on June 17.

Meanwhile Olympique de Marseille's Payet has been ruled out of the World Cup because of a muscle problem, France coach Didier Deschamps said on Thursday when he named his 23-man squad for the tournament in Russia.

Payet picked up the injury during Wednesday's Europa League final defeat to Atletico Madrid.

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial and Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette have both been left out of France's panel.

The Premier League pair instead included on an 11-strong standby list.

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has been included in the squad, along with team-mate N'Golo Kante, while Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, Manchester City left-back Benjamin Mendy and United midfielder Paul Pogba are the other England-based players in the party.

Bayern Munich's Kingsley Coman is another big name who has to be content with a place on the standby list, alongside the likes of Tottenham's Moussa Sissoko, Crystal Palace's Mamadou Sakho and Kurt Zouma, on loan at Stoke from Chelsea.
