Danny Grant registered a superb brace as Bohemians leap-frogged Sligo Rovers into seventh spot in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division with a 2-0 win over the Bit O'Red at the Showgrounds.

Grant struck in the 69th and 86th minute as the Gypsies picked up their fourth league victory of the season.

Both sides were looking for the win which would keep them in touch with the top six and it was Rovers who fashioned the first chance of note in the second minute.

Bohs net minder Shane Supple was forced to palm Rhys McCabe's bending free-kick from the angle over his crossbar after Greg Moorhouse was taken down by Dan Casey at the edge of the area.

The first half offered plenty in terms of energy and commitment but took some time to offer a talking point in front of goal.

Darragh Leahy, subsequently withdrawn through injury, skied his drive from 30 yards on 18 minutes. Shortly before Raffaele Cretaro saw his close-range header kept out by Supple.

Cretaro was involved in the action nine minutes from the break when he took a tumble under a Keith Buckley challenge inside the area.

Referee Ben Connolly decided the veteran went to ground too easy before promptly showing him yellow.

Substitute Dan Byrne ghosted unnoticed to the back post at the other end, but couldn't direct his header from Keith Ward's set-piece inside the Sligo post on the stroke of half-time.

Eduardo Pinceli netted his first for the westerners against Bray earlier this week.

And the Brazilian almost bamboozled Supple on 65 minutes when he sent his free-kick to the front post but Supple did just enough to keep out both the initial effort and Moorhouse's follow-up.

But it was the Dubliners who hit the lead against the run of play on 69 minutes.

Rovers failed to clear their lines before the ball fell to Grant who, opening up his body, sent a wonderful curler around Mitchell Beeney and into the top corner.

The points were secured four minutes from time when Eoghan Stokes showed John Mahon a clean pair of heels before picking out Grant, who whipped his first-time effort past Beeney.
