Gary Rogers: 'We won't hold any fear of Tallaght'

Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers must do it all again after their FAI Cup semi-final ended in a draw

Dundalk goalkeeper Gary Rogers says they will have no fear of playing the FAI Cup semi-final replay against Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght following the 1-1 draw at Oriel Park.

Dundalk took the lead after just nine minutes when Robbie Benson found the net and at the break the home side had a 1-0 advantage.

However Rovers were the dominant side in the second-half and created plenty of scoring opportunities. In the 76th minute Brandon Miele bagged the equaliser and both sides had to settle for a draw at full-time.

"We are disappointed we didn’t get the win," Rogers told RTÉ Sport.

"But equally so, it’s hard to be disappointed when you are not out of the Cup. It’s still a good opportunity to go to Tallaght and get through to the final.

"That’s the most important thing, we are not out and we enjoy playing in Tallaght anyway. We won’t hold any fear of it.

"Hopefully we will play a little bit better than we did in the second-half and we will go up there and get the right result."

The shot-stopper concedes that Rovers got the upperhand after the interval.

"They got a bit of a foothold in it and created a few chances.

"Unfortunately they got the goal and maybe they deserved it maybe they didn’t. It doesn’t really matter because they got it.

"It’s different in a cup game when you are one nil up. There is the mentality to hold what you have little bit.

"We have to address that and really go and get the second game which would have killed the game off, hopefully it won’t have cost us in the end."

The replay is set for 10 October at 7.45pm in Tallaght, where the winners will play Cork City at the Aviva Stadium.
