Jonathan Walters did not train with his Republic of Ireland team-mates once again on Tuesday as he attempts to prove his fitness ahead of Saturday's World Cup qualifier in Georgia.
The 33-year-old Burnley striker, who has been carrying an ankle injury, warmed up with the rest of the squad at Abbotstown, but then went off to work with the physios.
Manager Martin O'Neill revealed on Monday that he would have no qualms about selecting Walters if he declared himself fit even if he had not trained for "a day or two", although time is running down before the squad heads for Tbilisi on Thursday.
Assistant manager Roy Keane did not have a medical update on Walters' fitness during Tuesday's press conference, but he remains confident that the front man will be available for Saturday's game.
"To be honest I’ve not really spoken to Jon today or the medical staff, we just knew that he wasn’t going to be with us. I don’t really have an update on him," Keane said.
"If you want to talk about where he’ll be in a few days time, we’d like to think he has a chance, but yeah he didn’t train today with us so we’ll just play it by ear over the next few days.
"He’ll hopefully join in, I’m guessing, tomorrow or maybe Thursday. Jon’s obviously a big player for us and the fact he’s here makes me think he has a chance for the weekend."
With midfielders James McCarthy and Jeff Hendrick having already been ruled out of the game at the Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena - Hendrick could yet return for the clash with Group D leaders Serbia three days later - David Meyler's return to training after a groin problem was welcome news for O'Neill.
