Darren Randolph was delighted to have 'a good day' at Old Trafford on Sunday but likened the point earned at Manchester United to the battle of the Alamo.
The Ireland keeper performed heroics to earn West Ham a point and Randolph said that the game was one of the most memorable matches that he has played in.
The Bray native has enjoyed a memorable 18 months wearing the green of Ireland, where Randolph has established himself as the first-choice keeper, while also playing in many big games, including victories over World Cup winners Germany and the Euro 2016 clash against Italy.
But Randolph struggled to nail down a starting place with the Hammers and has only recently been given the seal of approval from manager Slaven Bilic.
And the former Birmingham City stopper repaid that manager’s faith with a remarkable performance against Manchester United, earning his side a very valuable away point at Old Trafford.
Speaking to the West Ham United official website after the game, Randolph said: “It’s certainly up there [with my most memorable] although I’d have liked to be less busy. When you’re having a good day, you’re having a good day.
“We got the luck today and the saves obviously counted towards something because we got a point.
“I haven’t [got a favourite save] but I’m just happy to have made the saves that count for something and that we’ve got a point out the game.
“We’re very happy. It was tough and like the Alamo at times, but that’s what it takes when you come to these places.”
And Randolph believes that the performance and result at Old Trafford can be the catalyst to kick-start the Hammers’ season as they currently sit in 16th place, just one point clear of the relegation zone.
“We can take a lot of confidence from this," he said. "Even with our performance last week. It wasn’t good enough for the whole game but today we were good enough for 95 minutes and we managed to get a point.”
