Midfielder James McClean sat out Republic of Ireland training this morning in Abbotstown, while Dundalk duo Daryl Horgan and Andy Boyle had their first sessions with the national squad.
McClean, who scored twice in Ireland's 3-1 win over Moldova last month, missed this morning’s run-out at FAI headquarters due to a back injury, and the West Brom midfielder went for a scan to assess the injury.
Dundalk duo Horgan and Boyle received their first call-up to the Ireland squad for Saturday’s World Cup qualifier in Austria (live on RTÉ2) on the back of a remarkable season playing for the League of Ireland champions.
Eunan O’Kane and Kevin Doyle also sat out the full training session at the wet and windy west Dublin venue.
Leeds midfielder O’Kane has a groin concern so missed out as a precautionary measure, while Doyle just flew in from the States this morning and sat out after the warm-up.
Another injury concern, John O’Shea, will arrive in Dublin later today.
The centre-half has been training in Sunderland for past few days and will be assessed by his club ahead of his trip to meet up with the Ireland squad.
