Shane Long has been ruled out of the Republic of Ireland's World Cup qualifier against Austria on Saturday week, while Dundalk pair Daryl Horgan and Andy Boyle are included in the squad for the first time.

David McGoldrick has been recalled in attack, but there is no place for Shane Long or Daryl Murphy due to injury.

Five goalkeepers have been named in the squad, with just four strikers listed. Colin Doyle returns to the squad alongside Darren Randolph, Keiren Westwood, Ian Lawlor and Danny Rogers.

Jon Walters, Adam Rooney, Kevin Doyle and McGoldrick are the strikers, with James McClean an option for attack after his two goals against Moldova.

Horgan has been in sensational form for the Premier Division champions, including scoring 10 goals in the league.

Boyle, linked with a move to Barnsley after another strong campaign with Stephen Kenny's men, is also included for the first time in the 35-man squad.

O'Neill revealed at a press conference in Dublin this morning that James McCarthy is doubtful and will be assesed next week.

Harry Arter is back in the squad after overcoming injury as his good form with Bournemouth continues.
