Chelsea boss Antonio Conte believes his side's hard work is starting to pay off after they claimed a comfortable 2-0 win at Southampton.

An early goal from Eden Hazard set the Blues on their way and a stunning strike from Diego Costa early in the second half secured the points.

Chelsea's back four kept a fourth straight clean sheet, much to Conte's delight.

He told Sky Sports 1: "We were fantastic from the first minutes to the end. I want to thank our support from me and from the players, because I think we won this game together.

"I'm pleased because for the fourth game we kept a clean sheet. It's very good, fantastic.

"Today we scored two goals and created many chances to score more goals. I think we are working very hard and you are starting to see our work.

"We have to work very hard to continue because with the right way we can improve a lot and we must improve."

Southampton counterpart Claude Puel bemoaned Hazard's sixth-minute strike, with the early setback making it tough for his team.

"We conceded a goal after just a few minutes and (that makes it) very difficult against this team as they can stay behind with a good block and play on the counter-attack," he said.

"We weren't clinical enough today and against this team it's difficult.

"They can do the damage with all these good players. It's a pity for my players because we tried to play good football and we had some chances and against Chelsea it's important not to concede an early goal. But that's life."
