Dundalk’s Chris Shields believes his side are worthy SSE Airtricity League champions after claiming the title at Oriel Park on Sunday night.
A 2-1 win over Bohemians guaranteed a third consecutive league crown for a Dundalk side also performing admirably in the Europa League.
“I think we deserve it over the year,” Shields told RTÉ Sport.
“We’ve done it all and we’ve done well in Europe.
“But it would have been bad if we hadn’t gone and won the league after doing that groundwork.”

Looking ahead to the remainder of Dundalk’s Europa League campaign and the upcoming FAI Cup final, the 25-year-old, who delivered a man of the match performance, said: “We’re not finished.
"We’ve dreams on the double and doing it again, and we want to get out of the group in Europe.”
