Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has stressed Steven Gerrard is "always welcome" at the club after the midfielder posted a possible farewell message to the Los Angeles Galaxy online.

Gerrard's contract with the Californian franchise will end after the current Major League Soccer season - in which the Galaxy are bound for the play-offs.

A message on the 36-year-old's official Instagram account, posted ahead of the Galaxy's fan appreciation night on Saturday, said: "Living in Los Angeles and playing for the great Galaxy supporters has been a privilege.

"You have made this place feel like home to me. This city and this club will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you #8"

Later in the day Klopp was quizzed about that in his post-match press conference following Liverpool's 2-1 Premier League win over West Brom at Anfield.

Klopp said: "Steven Gerrard is always so welcome at Liverpool FC.

"You cannot imagine how welcome. So, absolutely no problem.

"But everything that we have already or will speak to each other stays in this talk.

"That is how I know Stevie and that is how I am. But nobody should worry that we have no space for Steven Gerrard. No - everything will be fine, 100%."

Ex-England captain Gerrard made the move to Los Angeles in 2015 from Liverpool having played 710 times for the Merseyside club and skippered them to Champions League glory in 2005.

He also won the UEFA Cup, the FA Cup twice and the League Cup three times with the Reds after coming through their youth system.

Asked about the result against WBA, Klopp said: "'Who needs clean sheets when you get three points?"

"The atmosphere was outstanding, it was Anfield at its best. I've been here a little more than a year, but that was the best performance of the crowd in a non-European game."

He added: "Yes, in dreamland then you win always 4-0, 5-0 and the crowd can go earlier and people can go and do something more serious.

"But this game tonight created one of the best atmospheres because it was exciting towards the end. We created the chances and we didn't use the chances. In this moment it is better we won 2-1 than 3-0 or 4-0, but all good.

"We have 20 points. It was not possible we get more tonight."

When it was pointed out that 2-0 would have seen Liverpool wake up on Sunday morning as league leaders, the German joked: "Who wants to be top in October?"

On a more serious note for would-be title challengers, Gareth McAuley's close-range finish ruined what would have been a second clean sheet in a row.

Liverpool's vulnerability from corners is becoming a pattern and Klopp conceded it was an area the Baggies excelled in.

"The plan was to avoid set-pieces. They are so effective, they really are role models off set-pieces," he said.

"It felt like there were 15 West Brom players in the box.

"(I have) absolutely no problem with the goal we conceded tonight. I would like to have it that nobody can score against us but first we have to have it that nobody can create chances."
