Shelbourne fans protested at their upcoming move to Dalymount Park as flares were thrown on the pitch and banners unfurled to disrupt their 1-0 defeat to Waterford United.

Reds supporters groups have voiced their unhappiness at leaving Tolka Park and sharing the current home of Bohemians.

In the statement, Shels said the move heralds “a new dawn for League of Ireland football on the Northside of the Liffey and indeed throughout the country”.

But questions remain over whether can Shels can prosper sharing a stadium where Bohs have played for many decades.

The match eventually restarted as Shels players helped remove the flares from the pitch and a small fire in the stand was extinguished.
