Stephen Kenny is preparing his Dundalk side for a “crazy” finish to the Premier Division after they extended their lead over second-placed Cork City last night.

The top of the table battle ended 2-1, with the Lilywhites moving four points clear with five game left to play.

However, their involvement in the Europa League and preparations for an FAI Cup final means that recovery may become an issue for the back-to-back champions.

“It’s going to be a challenge, Shamrock Rovers on Friday and Longford on Monday, Zenit on Thursday and then three in five days after that,” Kenny told RTÉ Sport.

“It’s a crazy finish really. That’s the way it is.

"We’re not ecstatic about the fact that the league [game] hasn’t even been moved to Sunday or Monday, we can’t fathom why.

“There’s no real regard for the players but I do feel that we’re in the driving seat now.

“We’ve won nothing yet. I think they are a very humble group and they’ll be very determined. We’re not in the business of letting anything slip.

“Questions were asked of us, there was a lot of pressure on the players going into [the game].

“But every question that’s been asked of them over the last three years, they’ve answered them emphatically.”

His Cork counterpart, John Caulfield, said:  “There might be a few more twists but obviously they’re in the driving seat and have one hand on the cup.

“We’ve a massive game on Friday in Galway. We’ll get back to basics and see can we win the match and see if we can keep the pressure on.”
