Robbie Brady has been ruled out of Sunday’s Russia 2018 World Cup qualifier away to Moldova due to concussion.
The Football Association of Ireland confirmed that the Norwich man had been released from manager Martin O’Neill’s squad following the head injury he picked up in Thursday night’s 1-0 win over Georgia at the Aviva Stadium.
In a statement, the FAI said that Brady was given the all-clear following a night in hospital, but that he won’t be part of the travelling party for the Moldova game.
"Robbie Brady has been released from the squad following concussion suffered in the 1-0 win over Georgia on Thursday, October 6," read the statement.
"Brady spent the night in hospital and underwent a precautionary scan, but he has been cleared by the FAI medical staff.
"Midfielder Jeff Hendrick is suspended for Sunday's Group D game in Chisinau, but has travelled with the squad.
"There is no reaction to the knock that Shane Long received against Georgia and he is expected to train on Saturday."
Hendrick picked up his second yellow card in two games, the first in the Group D opener against Serbia.
With Brady also out and Bournemouth’s Harry Arter not part of the squad it leaves O’Neill light on midfield options.
The Republic of Ireland huffed and puffed to a laboured win over Georgia in their first home game of the campaign.
Captain Seamus Coleman got his first international goal after 40 caps to see his team take three points.
After 81 minutes Brady clashed heads with Georgian defender Solomon Kverkvelia while the pair went for a ball and required treatment before leaving the field on a stretcher and being replaced by Glenn Whelan.
