Finn Harps striker Kevin McHugh’s season looks like it's over after a freak accident almost completely sliced off his finger.
The 36-year-old got his wedding ring caught in a fence when trying to fetch a stray football.
He’d been coaching at the Donegal Soccer Academy at the time, but immediately drove himself to Letterkenny University Hospital where he awaited surgery to try and save the finger.
He will go under the knife on Thursday morning.

McHugh tweeted a gruesome picture of the injury with the caption: "Think that's my season over."
He later added: "Hoped [sic] over fence and wedding ring got caught, and u can picture the rest. Op in Galway in morning to salvage something. Could have been worse.
Finn Harps are third from bottom in the SSE Airtricity Premier Division, five points ahead of Wexford Youths and the dreaded relegation/promotion play-off.
They dug out a scoreless draw with Sligo Rovers on Tuesday night and have five games left to preserve their top-flight status.
